as parasites, they live on humans or animals, as well as in numerous home surfaces


Damage:
carry and distribute parasites, worms and diseases. bite results range from skin irritation to transmission of worms or infection.

Habitat:
homes are the perfect habitat for roaches due to food source, warmth and moisture


Damage:
people with allergies may experience worse symptoms due to the dust of cast-off cockroach skins. Infestations in improperly stored food are common.

SPIDERS

both Black Widows and Brown Recluses


Habitat:
dark, quiet places with little interference


Damage:
both are dangerous to humans, and both cause painful bites. first symptoms include stiffness, nauseau, trouble breathing and swelling of the bite. contact local Poison Control for bite treatment.

TERMITES

Subterranean (winged reproductives, non-winged workers and soldiers)
*note - termites have 2 body parts (head & body), whereas ants have 3 (head, abdomen & thorax)


Habitat:
Underground in nests, then manifesting in wood to feed


Damage:
responsible for more structural damage than any other pest. damage includes major structual to all wooded supports and frames, plus any wood on interior of structure.

BEETLES

Powderpost, Drugstore, Larder


Habitat:
Powderpost - within hardwoods
Drugstore & Larder - infest stored food, plant products


Damage:
Powderpost - larvae eat unvarnished hardwoods, leaving small tubes in wood

Drugstore/Larder - invade homes in search of stored beans, grain or seeds. Common in pantry areas. Leather goods are also common food source.




ANTS



Common

Varieties:

Carpenter, Fire, Argentina


Habitat:
Carpenter Ants - moistened or decaying wood
Fire Ants - nest in mounds


Damage:
Carpenter Ants - dig hollow tubes through wood, can compromise structure and cause major damage to homes and businesses.

Fire Ants - can invade home in search of sweets and nest within structure.
